HYDROLOGICAL QUADRANTS: UNDER A PASSING SKY
MONGOLIAN WATERCOLOUR RAIN Studies (2026)
Paper covered in blue watercolour was laid in heavy Mongolian rain. For a limited time, the painted surface remained open to the weather. Retrieved and dried, each sheet preserves a different encounter between falling water and colour.
Faroe Islands WATERCOLOUR Studies (2024/2025)
Watercolour studies of the Faroe Islands, where rocky contours soften into washes of blue and grey. Between dense pigment and open paper, the landscape hovers at the edge of visibility.
Studies of Volcanic Terrains in ICELAND (2026)
This series takes the flow and solidification of lava as a starting point for depicting Icelandic volcanic terrain. The works move between eruptions in progress and landscapes formed as lava cools and accumulates, considering different stages of the same geological process.
Watercolour provides the principal means of exploring these transitions. In a related subseries, areas of gold leaf evoke incandescent lava, introducing a metallic luminosity alongside the translucent colour.
THE SUGGESTION OF MONGOLIAN LANDSCAPE (2026)
These works bring green and blue into changing relationships. Their proximity invites associations with grassland, sky and distance. Landscape begins to appear through the simplest of means.
ICELANDIC WATERCOLOUR Studies (2023)
These paintings begin with looking at the Icelandic landscape. Watercolour translates its contours and expanses into a few relationships of colour and form. Each work stays close to the quiet experience of encountering a place.
